Call for Real Estate Investors in Rwanda

Philip lucky, the marketing manager at Rwanda Development Board (RDB) said that there is the need for more investors who can provide low-cost housing facilities and reduce the cost incurred in the importation of construction materials. Rwanda intends to have 340, 000 units by 2022 to cater for the increasing demand of housing facilities and the country has noted a rise in real estate investment for the past 14 years as it is currently worth $596 million and was initially $100 million. He echoed these sentiments in Kigali while addressing delegation of business from Angola. The delegates were on tour to study and explore available business gaps in Rwanda. Philip appealed to the delegates saying that real estate investment contributes over 8% of Rwandan GDP making it an attractive investment.

Philip also said the government had secured 13, 180 square meters of land which should be connected to the national grid soon. Moreover, there are investment opportunities in textile and garments when considering manufacturing sector. He also said that Rwanda expects that by 2020, light manufacturing should contribute to 26% of GDP as it grows at an annual rate of 7%

Other investment opportunities which were briefed during the delegation were tourism, agriculture, ICT and medical tourism. The discussions also considered fiscal and non-fiscal incentives which are essential for state development like access to electricity and water, fast-track project implementation, and tax-related services.

Speaking in connection to tourism, Philip said that the country expects 25% growth in the sector by 2018 and assured them of investment opportunities in the building of eco-resorts, in L. Muhazi, hotels and resorts. The ICT sector of Rwanda also required investors in cybersecurity, logistics, agri-tech, and others. Investors who could provide Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services were also welcomed. The medical tourism sector in Rwanda needed medical services in nephrology, cardiology, and oncology.
